Tragedy On Mearne Road Near Downpatrick As Crash Claims A Life

A young life has been lost in a tragic road traffic accident on the Saul / Mearne Road near Downpatrick.

Jack Murnin from Bishopscourt died following a crash involving three vehicles.

dn_screenInspector Mark Peters said: “Police in Downpatrick can confirm that 20-year old Jack Murnin from the Downpatrick area has died following a road traffic collision on the Strangford Road on the afternoon of Monday 22 December.

“The collision which involved three vehicles, a blue Mazda 6, a grey Rover MG and a blue Seat Leon, occurred at around 1pm.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw any of the vehicles travelling in the area in the time before the collision to contact officers in Downpatrick or the Collision Investigation Unit in Steeple on 101.

Ritchie Extends Condolences To Family Following Downpatrick Collision

South Down MP Margaret Ritchie (SDLP) has extended her condolences to the family and friends of Jack Murnin who died following a collision in Downpatrick Monday afternoon (22/12/14).

Ms Ritchie said: “I wish to extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to Jack’s family and friends at this most difficult time.

“While any sudden and unexpected death is tragic, this loss is all the more poignant at this time of year and considering that his father passed away under similar circumstances 14 years ago.

“Jack and his father are survived by his mother, grandmother and two siblings, whose grief must be beyond reckoning. On behalf of the entire Downpatrick community I would like to express our deepest sympathies to them and the extended Murinn and Cunningham families.”
