Support Group Opening In Newcastle To Support Aware Defeat Depression

Aware Defeat Depression, the only charity in Northern Ireland working exclusively for those affected by depression is to open up a weekly Support Group in the Newcastle Centre, Newcastle.

The Support Group, which is free of charge to attend, will launch on Thursday 13 February 2014 at 7pm.

awareNIThe groups welcome anyone with depression, male and female, as well as the family, friends and carers of those with depression. The group will then run fortnightly on Thursdays at 7pm.

Support Services Manager for Aware Defeat Depression, Andy Sims said: “The purpose of a support group is to bring together people experiencing similar problems, so that through identifying with them, they can support and be supported by others. Enabling people to learn more about their illness and the alternative treatments available will help them to develop coping skills.

“The meetings are very informal. After brief introductions, individuals may talk about their experiences, share information and ask questions. No member is obliged to speak, however, and short periods of silence are normal.”
