Sinn Féin’s Willie Clarke Calls For Tollymore Road Upgrade
NEWCASTLE Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has called for an upgrade to the Tollymore Road.
Councillor Clarke explained: “Correspondence I have received from Roads service outlines they are to carry out a technical assessment of the Tollymore Road, Newcastle, this assessment will include an analysis of the existing road layout, vehicular traffic movements, environmental impact, scheme cost; frequency and relevance of recorded collisions along the Tollymore Road between the Main Castlewellan Road and the Middle Tollymore Road.”
“Large numbers of pedestrians use this road including school children and large sections of the road have no footpath provision; the Tollymore Road/ Middle Tollymore Road has also very poor drainage infrastructure.
“The Tollymore Road includes a number of dangerous corners and blind spots. Road infrastructure is in dire need of an upgrade. Roads Service Forward Planning will update me with the findings following the completion of the technical assessment,” added Councillor Clarke.
