SDLP Welcomes Direct Flights Daily From Dunlin To Canada

South Down Assembly Member Seán Rogers MLA has welcomed the recent announcement by Aer Lingus that the Irish airline is introducing daily flights directly between Dublin and Canada.

In welcoming the announcement Mr Rogers said: “Without a direct service to Canada from Ireland the journey, particularly in wintertime, can be both difficult and frustrating. Even to get to some of the major cities in Canada currently means making connecting flights on three or four occasions from airports in Europe and America. Thanks to Aer Lingus all of that will change in the springtime 2014.dn_screen

“The Irish airline has joined with Air Canada Rouge, a subsidiary of Air Canada, to offer direct flights between Dublin and Toronto. These flights will offer direct connections between Toronto and eight major Canadian cities including Vancouver and Montreal. East-west travelers will also benefit from direct connections available from Dublin to more than twenty European and UK cities.

“Going west Canada is our nearest neighbour yet it seems strange that there are no direct airline links between the two. I imagine the new route will prove a very popular particularly with travelers from the northern part of Ireland from which so many families in Canada originated”.

“The new service commences in April next year and will operate daily during the peak season and up to four times weekly in the less busy winter period”, added Mr Rogers.
