THE undertaking by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin to introduce a new design in the standard Irish Passport has prompted action from South Down MLA Sean Rogers (SDLP) to make a firm proposal to the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Republic An Tánaiste Mr. Eamon Gilmore TD.

On learning that the newly designed passports will include images of many well known landmarks throughout Ireland, Mr Rogers has provided the Minister with a list of six South Down historical landmarks in the hope that at least one will merit selection.

Mr. Rogers said:  “The redesigning of our Irish passports is an excellent idea and it would be fitting if St. Patrick’s Grave or the Silent Valley or another famed South Down landmark were to be included in the lineup of places selected”.
