IT was busy day for the RGU handballers in the Ulster Championship last Saturday writes John Murphy.  In Beragh, Eilis Murphy and Rachael McKeown stormed through 2-0 to set up a semi-final clash next weekend. In Gort Na Mona in Belfast there were wins for Rhys Cunninghan and Ruairi Quinn in the U-12 Doubles, Ronan Murphy and Ryan Sterritt in the U-13 Doubles and Tim Prenter in the U-13 Singles. They all progress to the semis next weekend. The remaining matches will be played during the week involving Eoin McMullan, Ciaran Hampton and Michael McMahon.

Training schedule for Ballymote on Saturday: U-6s Boys and Girls at 10.30am, U-8s Boys (P3 &P4) at 11.30am, Girls U-10, U-12, and U-14 at 12.30pm, U-10 Boys (P5 & P6) at 1.30pm. Bring a water bottle and a £1 please. All parents please ensure that contact details are left with one of the mentors.

We would like to encourage more girls to come down and try out our gaelic training.  All girls from P4 upwards are welcome. Training on Saturday at Ballymote at 12.30pm.

U-14 Boys training commences on Monday  18 February evening at the club at 7pm sharp. All boys who are interested in playing this year are invited down. Bring a water bottle and £1 and suitable playing gear.

The Red High moved in the semi-final of the McLarnon Cup with a three point win over Castleblaney at Clonduff on Saturday. RGU representation was high with captain Anthony Doherty leading by example, ably assisted by Conor McGrady, Ruairi Bryce, Daniel McCarron, Eoin McEvoy and Johnny Bell. The final score was St Patrick’s Downpatrick 0-10 Our Lady’s Castleblayney 0-7. Next up in the semis is an all-Down clash against St Louis, Kilkeel.

Membership fees for the year 2013, are now due, and should be paid before 28 February 2013. Contact Registrar Roisin Polly to arrange payment. Fees are £35 for adult, £25 for juveniles and £5 for U6s. Reduced rates for more than one child.
