Never Too Old To Learn And Meet New Friends

Following the success of the Senior Shindig in February, older people will have another opportunity to enjoy a day packed with exciting entertainment and socialising on Thursday 11 October from 10am at The Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle.

Downpatrick, Rowallane and Slieve Croob District Electoral Area (DEA) Fora have once again collaborated with County Down Rural Community Network (CDRCN), Home Accident Prevention, Policing and Community Safety Partnership and Age Friendly Alliance to host another fabulous ‘Senior Shindig’.

Getting ready for the big Shindig are local councillors and DEA forum members.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mark Murnin said: “This is sure to be another great day which older people can come and enjoy.

“The event is a platform for people to learn how to keep safe and reduce rural and social isolation and most importantly socialise, meet new friends and have fun. The day will be packed with entertainment and light hearted fun and statutory and voluntary agencies will also be in attendance on the day to offer vital information and advice on a range of issues commonly experience by older people.”

“These events would not be possible without a number of agencies working together and is a great example of community planning working well in action.”

Entertainment includes bingo, an interactive quiz, a tea dance, sketches and much more.
