Neighbourhood Watch Deters Anti-Social Behaviour and Burglars

In Down District, Neighbourhood Watch has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2005 to the current membership of over 70 co-ordinators. Members in the Neighbourhood Watch Schemes make a valuable contribution by being the eyes and ears for the community’s local safety.

Neighbourhood Watch is a partnership between the local police and local communities supported by Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).

Neighbourhood Watch aims to help people protect themselves and their property, and to reduce the fear of crime. Co-ordinator’s in Down District have stated that being involved in a scheme makes them feel safer and having direct contact with their local Neighbourhood Policing Team has helped in the combat of crime and anti-social behaviour. Furthermore, co-ordinator’s commented that getting house insurance at a reduced rate is a financial benefit.

If you are interested in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme or would like to find out more Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership are hosting their next Neighbourhood Watch meeting in the Killyleagh area on Thursday 27 June 2013 at 7pm.
