LOCAL residents in Ballyhornan have a strong community spirit despite living in difficult environmental conditions following the withdrawal of RAF Bishopscourt in the early nineties.
Now they have decided to orgaise a major fun day and fundraiser. Geraldine McMullan, resident, said: “We have some good news on how to help our community . The owner of the Bishopscourt racing Circuit has given us permission to use the area to raise money for our local community.
“We are have already put together various ideas on the fun day but this is a very large open area. We have set a date for Saturday 8 June for the Fun Day . There will be a car boot , cycle race, and various other events going on.
Local charities will be setting up stalls and we are planning to entertain the children.
“If you are part of a local group please let me know if you can think of anything we could do on the day in terms of activities. Just pass on the word round to other groups you know in the community or anyone who would like to set up a stall. Money lifted for fees for cars and vans at the car boot sale will be divided between the groups and what you make on your stall will be for yourselves.
“We have thought of getting a radio road show on the day, but we are still at teh early stages of planning. Ideas such as having face painting, donkey rides etc will all be fun for the children and we do need a few adult events too! We are open to ideas. Please get back to me as soon as you can. The more the merrier.”
