Islanderry Fishery Hosts Disabled Anglers Competition

Islandderry Fishery, Dromore, played host to the Irish Disabled Fly Fishing Competition on Saturday with anglers coming from as far as Dundalk to support the competition to raise money for the Irish Disabled Fly Fishing Team.

The competition was tight with some lovely trout being caught and released throughout the day and all anglers getting their two fish bag.  I.D.F.F.A team member Rab Clements, Banbridge, took first place with a two fish bag weight of 12lbs which included a full tailed rainbow of 8lbs 2oz caught on a dry fly.

Second place went to Paul Brown, Dromore, with two fish for 9lbs 2oz.  I.D.F.F.A team member Paddy McKenna, Dundalk, bagged third place with his two fish bag of 8lbs 11oz while Lurgan angler Bill Johnston landed fourth place with two fish for 7lbs 4oz.

Fishery regular Sean Gibson, Belfast missed out on first place by bagging up too early with a weight of 6lbs 8oz and then landed a fish just under 7lbs which unfortunately couldn’t be counted making Sean have to settle for fifth place. Lisburn angler Ronnie McFadden had a two for 5lbs 9oz giving him sixth place.

A big thank you to all who supported the event and to Mrs Dympna Clements and Mrs Audrey Kerr for the lovely stew, soup and homemade wheaten bread!  The next event at the fishery is the ever popular all night fishing competition and BBQ on Saturday 22 June.  Anglers will fish from 7pm to 7am with a break in between for the BBQ.  There will be prizes for the heaviest bag of three trout.  Everyone is welcome.  For more information contact the fishery on 07859074424 or via Facebook or on the website at:
