Downpatrick Police Enquiry Office Temporarily Closed As Safety Precaution

POLICE  in Downpatrick are advising that the enquiry office at the police station has been closed as a safety precaution following a partial building collapse close to the station on Irish Street.

A cordon has been placed around the building in question and Down District Council Building Control specialists were on site to investigate.

While the enquiry office is closed, anyone who wishes to contact local police is asked to do so by using the 0845 600 8000 number or they can visit Newcastle police station which is open to the public until 8pm in the evening.

A spokesperson from Down District Council said: “The property owner has engaged the services of a local engineer and builder to assess and stabilize the front of the building.

“Down District Council will be working closely with the owner and engineer to agree a long-term solution for this building.”
