Down Hospital May Get Improved Ophthalmic Services Following Consultation

OPTHALMOLOGY CONSULTATION

The Belfast Trust is consulting on proposals to change and modernise the way Ophthalmology Outpatient services are delivered by the Belfast Trust in the Northern, Southern and South Eastern Trust areas.

The Downe Hospital may soon become the centre for Ophthalmic treatment in the Down area.
The Downe Hospital may soon become the centre for Ophthalmic treatment in the Down area.

The Belfast Trust is proposing that ophthalmic services which are currently provided from four locations within the Trust (Ards Hospital, Bangor Hospital, Ulster Hospital and Downe Hospital) will be consolidated to provide one-stop patient services, with enhanced diagnostics and treatment options, at the South Eastern Trust Ophthalmic Clinical Centre at the Downe Hospital. Existing outpatient services at the Lagan Valley Hospital will be retained.

As part of this consultation, the South Eastern HSC Trust is raising awareness to encourage local residents and staff to consider the proposed changes and submit a response to Belfast Trust for consideration.

The consultation opened on 5 May and will close on 5 August 2016.  The consultation document and Equality Impact Assessment is available from the Belfast Trust website:
