Castlewellan GAC Notes For 29th February 2016

The Seconds team had a mixed week in the Premier Reserve League. They beat Bredagh during the week to maintain a 100% start to the league, but came back down to earth with a defeat away to Kilcoo on Sunday past. With four points out of a possible six it isn’t the worst start to the season but we will want to return to winning ways as quickly as possible.

*Life in Division 1 of the Allianz National League is proving very tough for Down with a heavy home defeat to Kerry who rolled out the big guns in Newry last Sunday. It is a cruel learning curve for Down but it’s a tough at the top of the tree. Our own Michael Cunningham made a return to county colours after a recuperation from injury. He had a very steady 70 minutes between the sticks with some impressive saves. It will be a long road for Down but let’s keep the faith – Rome wasn’t built in a day!

*Congratulations to our three Colleges Camogie All Stars who received their awards at a ceremony last week. Anna Rogan, Nicola McCabe and Catriona Caldwell attended the awards ceremony on Friday night in Toome at the Elk Inn. All three attend Assumption Grammar Ballynahinch. This is a fantastic reflection on both our club and the school who put so much effort into coaching all the young ladies to improve their camogie skills.

*Staying on the Camogie theme well done to the Down Minor Camogs who beat Antrim on Saturday past. The team featured our own Nicola McCabe, Catriona Caldwell and Amy Barr. These girls don’t hang around on ceremony – straight from awards ceremony to a game on Saturday – the way it should be – well done ladies!
