Club notes

Ballynahinch fielded six teams on Saturday, with 5 of them in Cup fixtures, and managed to achieve a clean sweep of victories. Given the list of unavailable players this represents a terrific achievement, especially the lower sides. Well done to all who pulled on a Hinch jersey.

The 2’s continued their unbeaten run with a hard fought win over Ballyclare, the only team to beat them last season. A close game ended in a 19-9 victory with the impressive Rhys O’Donnell scoring twice to go with an inevitable Ferris try.

The 3’s are also unbeaten and started their defence of the Crawford Cup with an easy 43-0 victory over Ballymoney 2s. Their tries were scored by Carson, Nugent, McAuley, Hyndman and a Dick McKelvey treble.

There will be 3 Hinch teams in the next round of the Crawford Cup as the 4s and 5s joined the holders in the pot. They had contrasting victories with the 4’s running out easy winners over Larne 2’s by 66 points to 5 while the 5’s had to tough it out 13-7 over Enniskillen 2’s. Larne had no answer to the Ballynahinch backs and the home side scored through Irvine, Gillespie, Turner and Keers, with the McMullan brothers sharing another 4 between them.

Hinch 6s are through to the next round of the Forster Cup after a sensational win over Ophir. Callum Foreman with 2 and Stuart Armstrong were the try scorers.
