Bailie Condemns Strangford Fly Tipping

Local Councillor hits out at the reckless action of those who carry out fly-tipping

Cllr Naomi Báille has condemned recent fly-tipping on the Mearne Road outside Strangford.

Councillor Naomi Bailie has condemned fly tipping near Strangford.

The Sinn Féin Cllr who represents Downpatrick said: ‘This reckless action is absolutely disgraceful, and I totally condemn it as well as all instances of fly-tipping and littering.

“There are multiple mattresses dumped in the area which means the council will have to send out multiple council workers and a lorry to clean this up. All this costs money and at the end of the day money and resources which could be better spent on improving our communities is now being spent cleaning up the mess of a few selfish individuals.

“This whole area is listed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the local community as well as the Council have been doing great work trying to increase the tourism potential for the area. This action is frankly an attack on the environment as well as the whole community.

“I would like to encourage anyone with information regarding this or any other instance of fly-tipping to report it to the Police on 101 or Crime Stoppers 0800 783 0137.”
