He said: “I have been contacted by constituents regarding a retaining wall which supports a section of the Bann Road commonly known also as the horse shoe bend.  They have outlined to me that if the wall was to collapse then vehicles could be in danger.

“This section of the Bann Road at the horse shoe bend needs to be inspected and addressed by Roads Service due to the fact that should the retaining wall supporting the Bann Road ever become unsafe it could also cause this section of the Bann Road to collapse.”

“I would be very concerned as the Bann Road does have a lot of heavy duty Lorries and also buses including school buses using the Bann Road to and from Castlewellan.

“Should this wall continue to deteriorate, there is the likelihood that an accident may occue due to the amount of traffic particularly lorries and buses on the road.

“I have therefore made representations and asked Roads Service to carry out an urgent inspection and to commence repairs.”
