Líofa (the word meaning ‘fluent’ in Irish) was launched by the Minister in September 2011 to help people become fluent and improve their fluency and usage of Irish by 2015.  Sheol an tAire Líofa i Meán Fomhair 2011 le cuidiú le daoine snas a chur ar a gcuid Gaeilge agus bheith líofa sa teanga faoi 2015.  At a visit to Gaelscoil na Móna in West Belfast, the Minister said: “This is a fantastic achievement and one I am very proud to be part of. It is particularly pleasing to reach this latest milestone during Bliain na Gaeilge – a year dedicated to raising the profile of the language across Ireland.” Agus í ar cuairt ag Gaelscoil na Móna in Iarthar Bhéal Feirste, arsa an tAire: “Is éacht ar dóigh atá ann agus tá mé an-bhrodúil as bheith mar pháirt den fheachtas. Taitníonn sé go mór liom an gharsprioc is déanaí seo a bhaint amach le linn Bhliain na Gaeilge – bliain atá tiomnaithe do phróifíl na teanga a ardú ar fud na hÉireann. “The Irish language is our language and part of our culture and heritage. As I have witnessed here at Gaelscoil na Móna, it is something to be cherished and promoted. Líofa aims to encourage every citizen – regardless of their background or level of expertise – to embrace the inclusivity and enrichment of the Irish language.  “Is í an Ghaeilge ár dteanga agus tá sí mar pháirt dár gcultúr agus dár n-oidhreacht. Mar atá feicthe agam ag Gaelscoil na Móna, is fiú go mór an Ghaeilge a chaomhnú agus a chur chun cinn. Tá sé mar aidhm ag Líofagach saoránach a spreagadh – beag beann ar a chúlra nó ar a leibhéal saineolais – le glacadh le huileghabhálacht agus le saibhreas na Gaeilge.  “Although Líofa is a personal commitment and goal, we will help steer your learning experience and assist you in sourcing Irish language classes and learning support if you sign up to take the Líofa challenge.” “Cé go bhfuil Líofa pearsanta mar ghealltanas agus mar sprioc, cuideoimid le d’eispéireas foghlama a stiúradh agus cuirfimid eolas faoi ranganna Gaeilge agus tacaíocht foghlama ar fáil duit má chláraíonn tú le tabhairt faoin dúshlán Líofa.”  More information about Líofa is available from: http://www.dcalni.gov.uk Tá níos mó eolais faoi Líofa ar fáil ó: http://www.dcalni.gov.uk
