JOHN Noble, Chairman of the Downpatrick Twinning Associaation, said, “The Downpatrick Twinning Partnership has been playing host to delegations from across its European town twinning partners. In the past week over one hundred people from across Europe visited the county town to participate in a full programme of activities that aims to promote greater European unity and to develop closer personal contacts.

Students from schools in Chiari, Italy, visit St Patrick's Grave in Downpatrick as part of a cultural and educational exchange hosted by the Downpatrick Twinning Partnership.

“As well as participation in workshops and seminars addressing European themes, the visiting delegations had an opportunity to enjoy the many tourist attractions in and around Downpatrick.

“In addition the visiting Wieniewa Brass Band from Poland staged a very enjoyable concert in the St Patrick Centre and the musical students from schools in the Italian partner town of Chiari visited St Mary’s High School with a view to developing future educational links.

“This recent exchange was supported by the EU Town Twinning Programme and Down District Council.

“Following this successful exchange visit there are future co-operation exchanges being planned including a learning beginners Spanish course in the coming months,” he said.
