NEWCASTLE will set the scene for one of Northern Ireland’s biggest events this August, with a two-day music concert now added to the award winning Festival of Flight.

The Feeling, Chipmunk, and Wonderland are among a host of top chart acts so far scheduled to perform at the Festival of Flight in One Cool Weekend on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August at the Playing Fields, Castlewellan Road.

It features as part of the Festival of Flight, which runs from August 1st through to August 7th, which will once again feature an air display from the Red Arrows and a full programme of family entertainment.

Last year the Festival of Flight attracted 140,000 people to the County Down resort.

While there are more acts yet to be confirmed, other artists booked for the Cool FM extravaganza include: Wretch 32, Frankmusik, The Reason 4, Colenso Parade, Relish, Microlip, A.J., Parade, and Silhouette.

Indie-pop band The Feeling are headlining One Cool Weekend in Newcastle.

Tickets go on sale from Ticketmaster and Newcastle and Downpatrick Tourist Information Centres on Friday July 1st.

Councillor Dermot Curran, Down District Council Chairman said, “Events on this major scale are known to give an instant and dramatic boost to visitor numbers but, just as important, research and experience show us that many of those who come to Newcastle specifically for the festival will either prolong their stay or return to enjoy our other attractions.

“We can therefore expect our investment in the festival to bring economic benefits far beyond the festival week itself.”

The music concert incorporated into this year’s Festival of Flight is the culmination of a number of events planned by Northern Ireland’s biggest listened to commercial radio station, Cool FM, to help celebrate 21 years of broadcasting.

“Cool FM is celebrating its 21st birthday this year in style,” added Eddie West, Programme Controller with Cool FM. “The concert is part of a year long calendar of events planned to mark 21 years of bringing Northern Ireland close to great music.

“Cool FM is Northern Ireland’s most listened to commercial radio station with 376,000 people tuning in each week. We’re very excited to be bringing this major event to Newcastle.”
