Is ceiliúradh bliantúil ar an Ghaeilge í Seachtain na Gaeilge a bhíonn ar siúl ar fud na hÉireann agus an domhain mhóir. Bhí réimse leathan imeachtaí mar chuid de cheiliúradh na bliana.

The Stormont celebration of Seachtain na Gaeilge is also an opportunity to promote the Líofa campaign. Seachtain na Gaeilge manager, Brenda Ní Ghairbhí addressed attendees at the event, which was compered by Máire Bhreathnach, after which The Scoil Ruairí Dall harpists, BBC Radio Ulster’s Brian Mullen, traditional musicians from Castlewellan Comhaltas Branch and JJ Ó Dochartaigh peformed.

Tapaíodh an deis ag an cheiliúradh in Stormont ar Sheachtain na Gaeilge feachtas Líofa a chur chun cinn. Labhair bainisteoir Sheachtain na Gaeilge, Brenda Ní Ghairbhí, leis an mhuintir a d’fhreastail ar an ócáid, agus ba í Máire Bhreathnach bean an tí. Bhí ceol ann le cláirseoirí Scoil Ruairí Dhaill, le Brian Mullen ó BBC Raidió Uladh, le ceoltóirí traidisiúnta Chomhaltas Chaisleán Uidhilín, agus le JJ Ó Dochartaigh.

The Minister said: “Seachtain na Gaeilge is our opportunity to use and celebrate the Irish language. The Irish language defines who we are in this part of the world. We use Irish every day. Many words in common use have a basis in Irish and Irish is also evident in many of our names and place names. This continues a shared tradition which can be traced back through history.”

Ar sí: “Tugann Seachtain na Gaeilge deis dúinn úsáid a bhaint as an Ghaeilge agus ceiliúradh a dhéanamh uirthi. Tá an Ghaeilge mar chuid den fhéiniúlacht againn sa taobh seo domhain. Bímid ag baint úsáid as an Ghaeilge gach lá. Tá a bpréamhacha sa Ghaeilge ag cuid mhaith de na focail a bhíonn in úsáid againn gach lá, agus tá rian na Gaeilge le mothú inár n-ainmneacha agus inár logainmneacha. Táimid ag leanacht le traidisiún atá i gcoitinne againn, traidisiún a théann i bhfad siar sa stair.”

Reflecting on the Líofa campaign the Minister said: “As part of the Líofa campaign, almost 6,000 people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities are learning Irish. They do so for many reasons, for the joy of learning, as an academic exercise, to understand our history and culture or because their friends and family can speak Irish. They are all pledging to become fluent together. In order to assist them on their journey a new website has been set up and social media is being used to connect Irish speakers. And for the first time tonight we will hear a special Líofa song composed by JJ Ó Dochartaigh.”

Ag trácht ar fheachtas Líofa, arsa an tAire: “Tá beagnach 6000 duine de gach aois, cúlra agus cumas ag foghlaim na Gaeilge mar chuid d’fheachtas Líofa. Tá a bhfáthanna féin ag gach duine acu leis sin a dhéanamh – is aoibhinn leo an léann, beart acadúil atá ann, is mian leo tuiscint a fháil ar ár stair agus ar ár gcultúr, nó tá Gaeilge ag a gcuid cairde agus gaolta. Tá gealltanas déanta acu líofacht a bhaint amach le chéile. Tá suíomh úr idirlín bunaithe le cuidiú leo ar an aistear seo, agus tá úsáid á baint as na meáin shóisialta le cainteoirí Gaeilge a chur i dteagmháil lena chéile. Agus den chéad uair riamh, cluinfimid amhrán anocht atá cumtha go speisialta ag JJ Ó Dochartaigh faoi choinne Líofa.”

“This annual celebration of our Irish language highlights how the language belongs to all of us. It has been at the heart of our society for centuries. It is playing its part in shaping our future.”

“Léiriú atá sa cheiliúradh bhliantúil seo ar an teanga ar an Ghaeilge mar rud a bhaineann le gach duine againn. Tá sí ag croí na sochaí againn leis na céadta bliain anuas. Tá ról aici i múnlú na todhchaí againn. Gabhaim buíochas libh arís as theacht. Tá súil agam go mbainfidh sibh uilig tairbhe as an ócáid seo inniu agus go mbunóidh sibh pairtnéireachtaí a rachaidh chun sochair daoibh.
