Down High Trio Get Ulster Recognition
Posted by Jim Masson On September - 17 - 2010
DOWN High School rugby is celebrating after three of its most talented senior players have been selected to play for Ulster. John Donnan, son of the school’s deputy headmaster, Mr David Donnan, has continued to impress at Ulster Schools 18 level.
He played in the recent matches against Munster and Leinster, accumulating significant game time as he continues his recovery from injury. John’s continuing excellent form has impressed a number of seasoned observers, not least Down High’s First Xv coaches John Gunson and Gareth McKillen.
Two other Year 14 students, Aaron Cairns and Stuart Orr, have been selected for the Ulster-U-19 Schools’ squad and are due to turn out in the weekend game against Munster. This is the first time that three Down High School students have been awarded Ulster honours at the same time. Mr Paul Logan head teacher, said, “This is a wonderful achievement for the boys concerned. It also speaks volumes about the commitment and skill of four coaches over the past several years.”
Selected to represent Ulster in the U-18's rugby squad are Stuart Orr, John Donnan and Aaron Cairns with Down High School head teacher Mr Paul Logan.
