Slieve Croob and Rowallane District Electoral Area Forums to Host Public Meetings on New Funding Sources

Following on from the very successful public meetings held in February, residents in the Slieve Croob and Rowallane District Electoral Areas (DEA’s) are cordially invited to attend the next meeting about funding opportunities for the range of services available within their DEA.

dn_screenIf you currently have or hope to develop a project in the future, these meetings will provide details on sources of funding and also offer information on a wide range of additional services available. Details of the public meetings appear below.

Sleeve Croob DEA – Tuesday 7 June – 7.00pm – at the Young HFArmers Hall in Seaforde.

Rowallene DEA – Wednesday 8 June – 7.00pm – at the War Memorial Hall in Crossbar.

The public meetings will also give residents the chance to meet their DEA Forum members and identify what is important to local people as the Council develops its Community Plan.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council wants to encourage communities to fully engage in the Community Planning process. When fully established, the DEA Forums will provide communities with a voice in Local Government and give them the opportunity to actively participate in the decision making process at a strategic level.

Slieve Croob DEA Chairperson, Councillor Stephen Burns said: “It is important that people from all walks of life become involved in identifying local needs and priorities to ensure that an effective and responsive approach is taken when developing localised Action Plans.

“Your DEA needs to hear the views of a diverse range of people to ensure that when developed, the Local Action Plan accurately reflects the issues and future aspirations of its residents.”

Rowallane DEA Chairperson, Councillor William Walker, said: “We want to hear from people who are affected by lack of road infrastructure or rural isolation, those who feel disengaged from the decision making process or anyone with a vision for the future of their area.

“It doesn’t matter if you are a farmer, disabled, young mother, doctor, teacher, from a marginalised community, self-employed or unemployed, this is your chance to have your say on the topics that matter most to you and affect change within your community.”

If you would like any further information about your local forum, become involved or have an issue that you wish to raise at the next public meeting, please do not hesitate to contact Philip Irivine, Slieve Croob DEA Coordinator or Ellen Brennan, Rowallane DEA Coordinator on 028 9756 4113.
