Sinn Féin’s Willie Clarke Calls For Flooding Solution in Newcastle
SINN Féin Newcastle Councillor Willie Clarke has called for immediate action from the Roads Service to resolve recurrent flooding at the industrial site on the Dundrum Road, Newcastle.
Councillor Clarke said: “ I have reported this issue to the Roads Service sectional office on a number of occasions, when I have been informed that the drains run into a soak away and I should wait until the tide has withdrawn. After visiting the site last week, this position in my opinion has become indefensible and the flooding issue needs to be resolved.
“The businesses there are being effected by the flooding which is causing so much annoyance to customers they’d rather avoid the flooding and go elsewhere, and in today’s economic downturn this is not acceptable.
“Roads Service need to resolve this unremitting flooding problem, and I will continue to lobby Roads Service to install the infrastructural improvement that is required to resolve the problem.”
