Commenting the Downpatrick, councillor McGrath said: “I recently brought the Minister for the Environment Mark H Durkan to Struell Wells just outside Downpatrick, to highlight the site and the potential developments their could be at it.

“The story and legacy of St Patrick is world renowned and we need to do all we can to develop this and maximise the visitor experience in our town. A modest investment at key strategic sites such as Struell Wells could reap greater benefits for the business community in our town.

“I highlighted the site to the Minister and suggested some possible developments such as utilising the ‘St Patrick’s Chair’ rock which overlooks the Struell Wells area and incorporating it into the site and providing picnic tables and other facilities for the day visitor.

“The Minister was delighted with the site and agreed that there was room for development at Struell Wells and I will keep in contact with the Department to ensure these plans are developed.”
