FORMER NI Education Minister, Sinn Féin South Down MLA Caitriona Ruane, has said that she is looking forward to attending the Young Scientist Awards in Dublin this weekend.
Ms. Ruane said: “The Young Scientist Awards are held annually to acknowledge the work of schools and students through the medium of scientific endeavour.
“Science is an important subject with huge technological leaps being made year by year, so it is crucial our young people are educated and encouraged to develop their skills in this area.
“As Education Minister I promoted the STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Maths), subjects so that more and more young people can develop careers through science based industries.
“I look forward to attending the Young Scientist Awards each year to see the marvelous projects brought forward by schools and individual pupils especially given the fact that the number of entries continue to grow. This is testament that the investment in STEM subjects is paying dividends.
“I would like to congratulate all the schools from South Down who have entries in this years competition and wish them all the best in the finals.”
