SINN Féin South Down Caitriona Ruane has called on the Minister for Social Development Nelson McCausland to clear up confusion around entitlement to the boiler replacement scheme after it was revealed that over 700 of the 1100 applicants were turned down for the scheme.
Ms Ruane stated, “I have tabled a question to the Minister Nelson McCausland in order to clarify the uncertainty surrounding the boiler replacement scheme
“Over the past few months my constituency office has been dealing with a number of complaints from people who have been turned down for the home boiler replacement scheme.
“The Minister for Social Development has now said that out of 1100 applications over 700 were unsuccessful. That’s a very high number and highlights the fact many people are finding it hard with fuel costs plus the additional costs of maintenance of their home heating systems and boiler replacements, which we very rarely hear about.
“The Boiler Replacement Scheme is a pilot scheme targeted at owner occupiers or private tenants on low income who miss out on other Government energy efficiency improvement schemes such as the Warm Homes Scheme. ”
“It is important that we get clarification from the Minister so that people are entitled to the scheme can access it successfully.”
