SDLP Leader and South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has said people across the North are suffering due to the First and Deputy First Ministers’ failure to bring forward a programme for legislation in the Assembly.
Speaking after receiving a response to her Assembly Question on the issue, Ms Ritchie said: “The First and Deputy First Ministers’ delay in bringing forward a legislative programme for our government departments is totally unacceptable.
“The core role of our Executive is to deliver services for people and act as a legislator like any other devolved institution
“Instead procrastination and stalemate is rife within the Office of the First and Deputy First Ministers and we have a situation where the main parties in the Executive are not acting in the best interests of the people.
“This has to change starting with a detailed programme for legislation alongside a thorough programme for government. The SDLP will continue to lead the fight for this change to the way in which our government is being run,” added Ms Ritchie.
