Remove Valuables From Caravans Over Winter Say Police

Newcastle police are reminding caravan owners to remove their valuables before they lock up for the winter.

dn_screenInspector Mark Peters said: “Caravans can be an easy target for criminals during the winter months resulting not only in the loss of valuable items like televisions and electronics, but also in additional cost for owners in repairing damage caused to caravans during break-ins.

“Caravans may be more vulnerable than houses but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your property secure. The easiest way to ensure these items are not stolen is to take them home with you. Remove all valuables and leave the curtains slightly parted to show any prospective burglar that nothing of any value has been left behind for them to steal.

“If however there are larger items that cannot be transported, arrange to have stronger locks fitted, or an alarm of some kind. Also make arrangements with other caravan users or site managers to keep an eye on your property, and tell them to report any suspicious activity to police.

“It is also important to remember to remove expensive items and keep your caravan secure even when it is parked at your home.

“By following these simple steps it is hoped that caravan burglaries can be prevented, saving the owners the expense of replacing the stolen items and repairing costly damage to their caravans.”
