THE arrival of summer means new art classes at Ards Arts Centre, and with everything from puppet inspired art clubs for children to a new charcoal class for adults on offer.
Enrolment takes place next week (Wednesday 11th May) for the Centre’s 6 week summer courses and half day workshops, all facilitated by experienced and professional tutors.
Guitar playing, pottery, caligraphy, patchwork and parchment classes are back, along with the popular Bollywood dancing, while new to the programme are classes in charcoal drawing with local artist Owen Crawford who will be guiding beginners and improvers through six topics to help them create their own work, and ‘Successful Painting’ with Jane Swanston where participants will learn about tonal value, composition and contrast.
Workshops include two ‘Colour Me Beautiful’ sessions with advice on what colours work best for what people, and a half-day with experienced dancer and teacher, Dr Ann, who will teach the basics of burlesque and demonstrate how to remove gloves, dance with a boa and twirl tassels – all in the best possible taste!
Also on offer are art classes for children, with those aged between 5 and 11 set to be inspired by the theme of puppets to coincide with the annual puppet festival in May. 5-7year olds can attend the ‘Mucky Pups Club’ on Saturday mornings and 8-11years are catered for in the ‘Krafty Kids Club’ on Friday afternoons where they can experiment with 2D and 3D arts and crafts.
All 6 week courses commence week beginning Monday 16th May and enrolment day is Wednesday 11th May from 9am to 5pm, Ards Arts Centre, Conway Square, Newtownards. For more information or to book drop into the Arts Centre or ring 028 9181 0803.
