Patrician Perform Cinderella Panto In Downshire Great Hall

For over 25 years the Patrician Youth Centre has been producing pantomimes in Downpatrick and this past weekend was another spectacular success with Cinderella.

For several months the cast had been rehearsing their parts and the smooth performances with music and dance flowed brilliantly.

Cinderella played by Sarah Tweedie sang like a nightengale and she even was lucky enough to have two princes! Ryan Fitzpatrick took ill and his stand in stand-in Peter Smyth did a first class job on Sunday afternoon.

As always, the quality of the set, costumes and make-up was first class. The large cast reached almost 60 and full credit to drama directors Anthong Frew and Brian Mullan for a lively and well timed show.

Speaking after the show, Yvonne Maguire, senior youth worker, said: “This has been a brilliant pantomime again for the Patrician Youth Centre.  I would just like to thank all the members for their superb efforts. Our sincere thanks too to the production team for their commitment and dedication to the Youth Centre and the Parish in the weeks prior to the show getting it all together.

“I must say a special word of thanks to all our sponsors in the community for the generous sponsorship received once again this year with a special thanks to Down District Council Arts Service and the Arts Council NI for financial assistance towards the production.

“It is also great to see the families and parents of our members in the cast giving their support as always in the rehearsals and performances.

“On Friday past the cast put on two school performances and an evening show, and on Sunday another afternoon performance. On all occasions we had full houses and this testifies to the Patrician pantomime success story over the years.”
