Newcastle To Enjoy World Premiere Drive In Of The Bug Movie

Newcastle, Co. Down, sees history in the making this weekend.

Newcastle Community Cinema (NCC), along with the two largest vintage VW groups in Ireland (Northern Beetle and Bus Owners Club & Eircooled), come together in Donard Park for a world exclusive first Drive-in Premiere of the Bug Movie.

This is a feature length documentary by Montana-based movie makers Damon and Elisabeth Ristau about the Volkswagen Beetle, the people’s car. Featuring Ewan McGregor and other enthusiasts of this iconic little car, the Ristaus travel the world to tell the story of the car that has brought so much happiness to millions over it’s 70 year production run. This story continues to touch lives today through the many enthusiasts who keep these cars on the road!

bug2Donard Park will be packed with vintage Volkswagens from all over Ireland on Saturday 28th May. Furthermore, Damon and Elisabeth Ristau, the movie creators, are flying in directly from Montana USA for the event. The magic of the movies will continue on Sunday afternoon over a BBQ at the Anchor Bar, Newcastle, when Damon and Elisabeth Ristau will lead a ‘making of’ the Bug Movie’ session.

After a showing of the Ristaus previous movie, The Bus Movie, the star of the Bus Movie Dave Manning direct from Arizona USA will perform music and share stories of life on the road. NCC, NBOC and Eircooled are grateful to Down, Newry and Mourne Council for their co-operation in making this event a reality.
