Newcastle Recognised at Best Kept Awards

Newcastle has been named as runner-up for the ‘Best Kept’ Small Town award at this year’s Open + Direct Insurance ‘Best Kept’ Town and Village Awards.

The awards, which are run by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC), recognise those towns, villages and housing areas which demonstrate great pride in their area by going the extra mile with efforts to create well maintained, clean and beautiful communities in which to live and work.

“Newcastle enjoys the natural beauty created from its golden sands and the Mourne Mountains and it is our privilege and responsibility not only to preserve this natural environment for future generations but to do all we can to enhance it and to share this with all those who come to visit this beautiful town.”

Doreen Muskett MBE, Chair of the NIAC said: “Congratulations to Newcastle on their achievement. The Best Kept Awards have been existence since 1957 and are now very firmly established as one of the ultimate accolades for towns and villages across Northern Ireland, so the people of Newcastle should be rightly proud.”

John Laverty, Retail Network Manager from Open+Direct Insurance added: “As proud sponsors of the Best Kept Awards I would like to extend my congratulations to Newcastle on their fantastic achievement. These awards reflect the efforts of those who feel passionately about their surroundings and how they reflect on the community, and everyone involved should be delighted that their time and effort has been rewarded.”
