Newcastle Intruder Assaults Woman In Botched Robbery

A woman was assaulted in her Newcastle home while a burglar demanded money.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a burglary in the Newcastle Street area of Kilkeel last night, Tuesday 27 October.

dn_screenIt was reported that at approximately 7.45pm, an unknown male entered a house in the area and assaulted the female occupant, aged in her 50’s, and demanded money. The intruder remained in the house for a period of time forcing the woman to remain with him while he searched for cash.

The woman attempted to escape a number of times which resulted in the suspect assaulting her causing cuts and bruising to her head and body. The woman managed to make good her escape and the suspect is believed to have made off down Campbell’s Lane in the direction of Mountain Road.

He is described as being approximately 35 – 40 years of age, of medium build, 6ft tall, with short spikey hair possibly gelled, a slim face with gaunt cheeks. He was wearing a grey bomber jacket. Nothing was stolen during the incident.
