Newcastle Bowlers See Red Without Green

[/caption] The meeting was called by SDLP Councillor Carmel O’Boyle and was attended by over 40 bowlers, two council officers and SDLP Councillor Eamonn O’Neill. Afterwards Councillor O’Boyle visited the bowling pavilion in Castle Park with members of the club. Following the meeting she said, “It will be almost two years before the installation of the overflow sewerage tank will be completed by NIW in Castle Park, and I very much regret the inconvenience that this vital work is causing to our bowlers. “However, the meeting we had was very constructive I believe, and we all intend to use these two years to plan for the future of the bowling club. We have formed one working group that is representative of the three groups that use the bowling greens and we intend to come up with a plan that will lead to the provision of a new pavilion and decent facilities in that area. “Newcastle councillors and council officers will be invited to work with us to come up with a solution to the problems we have. I have to say that while the present facilities are simply not acceptable and are nothing short of an embarrassment, our options are limited in the short term because of the work that is taking place in Castle Park. “As soon as NI Water move off this site, I want us to be ready to move forward with our plan for the future. I want to thank the bowlers who turned out in such large numbers to attend this meeting and am delighted with their enthusiastic response to the setting up of a working group. I have every confidence that we can achieve great things by working in partnership,”  added Councillor O’Boyle.]]>
