New Park And Ride Service At Slieve Gullion

To help meet the demand of visitors wishing to explore Slieve Gullion Forest Park, and to tackle recent issues surrounding parking that Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is arranging a park and ride shuttle service.

dn_screenThe park and ride will leave from Johnny Murphy’s Irish Bar in Meigh and travel to the Forest Park between 12 noon and 5pm daily. The last bus leaves Slieve Gullion at 4.30pm. This service will be provided at a small charge of £1 per person (return rate).

Speaking about the new service, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chair, Cllr Naomi Bailie said: “The Council is thrilled with the huge number of visitors who visit Slieve Gullion. To maximise the visitor experience and assist with visitor parking, which is on many occasions at capacity due to the sheer number of people visiting, Council is providing a daily park and ride facility over the summer which we hope people will avail of. The Council would like to thank Johnny Murphy’s Meigh for helping facilitate this provision through use of their car park.”

Slieve Gullion Forest Park is rich in atmosphere and boasts a wide range of attractions including a specially designed toddler’s area; adventure and play equipment for the older children; the “Slieve Gullion ZIP”; a trim trail for the adults; slides, climbing frames, an outdoor gym and even a maze.

The Forest trails, magnificent 10km Scenic Forest Drive, Red Squirrel Safari and the mysterious trek through the Giant’s Lair all offer the opportunity to explore and enjoy an enchanted day in Slieve Gullion. The Park is free to walk around and explore and offers a perfect day out for everyone – children, adults, families and friends.
