THE Police tasked the Mourne Mountain Rescue team at approx 5.45pm on the evening of Sunday 3rd July to assist in locating and evacuating a male walker.
He is believed to have suffered two epileptic fits while descending from of the summit of Slieve Donard towards the quarry and the granite trail overlooking Newcastle.
The exact location on the side of the mountain was unclear as reports coming back from the hill party said they where looking into the quarry on the Bloody Bridge track.
A Police Helicopter was tasked to identify the exact location on the mountain. As the man was still close to the summit area the helicopter was able to land and lift the casualty off.
The Mountain Rescue team subsequently set up a landing site in Donard Park and the casualty was handed over to the ambulance service for transfer to hospital.
