THE voluntary Mourne Mountain Rescue team were busy at the weekend with two calls on Slieve Donard in the Mournes.
The first was to assist a lady who was in distress and fatigued while descending Slieve Donard. The team was preparing to assist the women off the mountain when a second call was received to assist a second lady who had fallen and had sustained a suspected fracture to her arm while descending from the summit of Donard towards the Donard Commedagh Coll.
The first casualty was located and assisted on foot of the mountain by the team. The second women was located about 300 metres from the summit along the Mourne wall on Slieve Donard.
Due to the nature of her injuries the team requested the Irish Coast Guard helicopter to assist the casualty of the Mountain. Due to with the weather in the area closing in the team carried the casualty on a stretcher down to the Coll and set up a landing zone for the helicopter which arrived and lifted the casualty who was flown flew to Newry where the casualty was treated in Daisy Hill Hospital.
