MLA for South Down Karen McKevitt has been appointed as the new Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for the Environment.
Commenting on her new post Mrs. McKevitt said: “I am honoured to be appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to my party colleague and DOE Minister Mark H Durkan.
“I feel very privileged that our party leader Alasdair McDonnell saw fit to select me for this position. It will be a pleasure working alongside the Minister and his officials and gaining experience of working inside a government Department.
“I will carry out my new role along with my existing responsibilities as a member of the Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee and Business Committee. My priority as always will be to serve the people of South Down.
Mark H Durkan, Minister for the Environment said: “I look forward to working with Karen in her Assembly role. I have no doubt the Department of the Environment will benefit from the energy and commitment she will bring to this new post.”
