DOWNPATRICK Sinn Féin Down District Council candidate Eamonn McConvey has welcomed the fact that polling cards are already being delivered to homes across south Down – much earlier than in previous elections.

He said, “I am aware that polling cards have been already been delivered to a number of homes across the constituency ahead of the Assembly and Council elections on May 5th.

“This is much earlier than in previous polls and I hope that will increase awareness of the election and encourage people to use their vote.

“In the past there have been incidences where people who didn’t receive their polling cards despite being entitled to vote. I hope that the earlier timeframe this year will allow for these types of problems to be resolved but I would also reiterate that you do not need a polling card in order to vote. All that is required is photographic ID, so even if you don’t receive a polling card, you should still make your way to your polling station on May 5th.”
