SOUTH Down UUP MLA John McCallister has welcomed news from the PSNI that a number of interventions will be implemented at Castlewellan Road, Clough to improve road safety.
Mr McCallister contacted the PSNI recently to express his grave concerns about speeding issues at this location.
He was told that a recent speed survey had been conducted over three days by the PSNI Roads Management Officer and this gave an indication of days and times when excess speed would be most prevalent.
As a result the Area Commander for Down has asked the Roads Policing Unit to increase patrols at this area.
The Commander has also requested the use of the Safety Camera Van as well as the Speed Indication Device which will be deployed by the Neighbourhood Policing Team based in Newcastle.
Mr McCallister said, “I welcome anything that will lead to overall improved road safety. I have received a number of complaints about cars speeding at this location, so I will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks and months.”
