Local Film Star Opens Specsavers Downpatrick

Castlewellan actress Niamh McGrady, star of The Fall and Holby City, was in Downpatrick on Easter Saturday to officially open the new Specsavers Downpatrick store.

Based in The Grove Shopping Centre, the new opticians and audiologists outlet is owned and run by store directors Lynsey Caldwell and Paula Cunningham, who have invested £250,000 in the premises, creating seven jobs.

Pictured at the opening of the new Specsavers store in Downpatrick were, from left, Kevin Carlisle, Dympna Murray, Katie Laurence, screen star Niamh McGrady, Lynsey Caldwell, (Specsavers Downpatrick director), Sarah Niblick, Anne Marie Blaney, and John McGrillen.

They invited Niamh along to cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the store followed by an afternoon of Easter fun for the local community including face painting, balloon modelling and an Easter egg giveaway.

Lynsey and Paula have run the successful Specsavers Connswater store in East Belfast for last 16 years. With more than 35 years’ combined experience in providing essential health services to community, they are well placed to open the new Downpatrick branch which has state of the art facilities including two test rooms and a hearing centre with a soundproof room for hearing testing.

Lynsey said: “It was fantastic to have Niamh, a home-grown celebrity, to officially open our new store and to have some Easter fun with the local community.’
