Down District UKIP representative Alan Lewis has commended Roads Service and NIE employee’s who worked through the night to clear roads and restore power following the severe weather conditions.
He said: “There were many arterial routes kept open and passable throughout the weekend, and I must commend Roads Service who have done a brilliant job. I must also mention NIE engineers who have been working in blizzard conditions from around 8pm on Friday night when there were 2,600 homes without power in Down District.
“I’m thankful this number was rapidly reduced within a hour. I have been contacted by many residents expressing their gratitude for the determination of Roads Service and NIE engineers. I was also pleased to hear of the many good Samaritans within the district who used tractors / jeeps to free vehicles stuck in the snow.”
