Down District Council’s Biodiversity Officer Danielle Begley and Assistant Education Officer, Rebecca McGreevy were tasked with the enjoyable task of judging a competition to design a new playground and garden at St Patrick’s Primary School, Legamaddy.
The school’s P6 pupils presented their ideas to the judges, who were highly impressed with the proposals. “All the entries were really fantastic, and it’s clear that all the pupils put a lot of effort and imagination into their plans” said Rebecca McGreevy.
Danielle Begley added, “It is very encouraging to see that the children were interested in attracting wildlife into their garden by including wild flower areas, bird tables, log piles and ponds. The winning plans also included areas for recycling including blue bins, a compost area and a water butt for the collection of rain water to be used within the garden”.
