2012 was a busy year for the band and ended with a tour of Scotland where they entertained audiences across the country.

Since 1994, the band has recorded four albums; Blood Sweat and Bluegrass, Against the Grain, Whisky Before Breakfast and The Old Home Place. The band have recently released a new CD, Twenty Years a Growin’, as a celebration of 20 years of making music. They are currently working on a new album to be released later this year.

The instrumental line up in the band consists of Seamus Mc Gurgan (Banjo and Dobro), Tony Hutchinson (acoustic guitar and vocals), Aidan Mc Gale (bass and vocals) and Declan O’Kane (fiddle, mandolin and vocals). Vocal harmonies are an integral part of the band and these are prominent in practically every song.

The band has performed at the European Bluegrass Congress in Holland, the award winning Bluegrass in the Park at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, and for 16 years at the International Bluegrass festival in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. Other festival appearances include the Eagle Wing festival in Bangor Co. Down, Yorkshire Dales Bluegrass Festival, Galway Arts Festival, Boyle Arts Festival, Sligo Arts Festival, Letterkenny Arts Festival and The Walls of Derry Festival.

The Knotty Pine String Band have a strong country roots influence and will perform songs from John Prine, Kristofferson, Steve Goodman and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and as well as giving popular songs a bluegrass twist.
