SATURDAY past saw the 5th round of the winter league at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore, with Gerry Teggart, Belfast, taking 1st place with his 4 fish bag for 11lb 2oz using his own nymph patterns which now puts him into second place overall with 64 points.

Tom Long from Dromara with his 5 lbs rainbow trout caught on his first visit to Islandderry.

This now put the pressure onto Stevie Smith, Ballynahinch, who is leading the league with 64 points, but now thanks to Gerry’s win, only has a 2 point lead.  Young Matthew Sinnamon weighed in 4 fish for 10lbs 7oz  giving him second place and keeping him third overall with 57 points.

Third place went to Andy Simpson, Lisburn with his 4 fish for 10lbs 5oz while Ronnie McFadden, Lisburn, took fourth with his 4 fish for 9lbs 8oz. Ronnie was fishing his own cats whisker pattern to release over 20 trout. His result keeps him in fourth place overall.

The final of the winter league will be held on 26th March. The Hollow Springs lake is also fishing well with young Tom Long from Dromara trying his hand at fly fishing for the first and landing his first ever fish which tipped the scales at 5lbs.

Sean Gibson, Belfast,  was fishing Buzzers to release 10+ trout while Colin Jackson, Kilnallen,  was fishing Bloodworm on a bite indicator to release 24 trout.  For more information on the fishery, telephone 07859074424 or follow us on Facebook.
