THE December round of the Winter League at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore was finally able to take place on Saturday after the ice on the main lake was finally cleared. A lot of trout were caught despite the strong winds and rain with Bloodworms and Cats Whiskers being the flies of choice.
First place went to Gerry Teggart, Belfast, who bagged up with four fish for 11lbs 4oz using a Cats Whisker while Stevie took a close second with his 4 fish bag for 11lbs 2oz. Third place went to 17-year old Matthew Sinnamon from Blackskull who bagged up with 4 fish for 10lbs 6oz. Matthew went on to release a further 9 trout, 2 of which were well over 5lbs in weight. Equal fourth place went to Andy Simpson, Lisburn and Darrell McKinstry, Lurgan with their 4 fish bags weighing in at 9lbs 7oz. Cats Whiskers were working well for Ronnie McFadden, Lisburn who bagged up with four trout for 9lbs 1oz and released a further 9 trout while Colin McCard, Lisburn was fishing Bloodworms to land his 4 fish bag of 9lbs 6oz and then went on to release 4 more trout.
The Hollow Springs lake has also been fishing well with the Bloodworms, Orange Blobs and Cats Whiskers landing anglers double figure amounts of trout. John Spratt, Lurgan landed 27 trout fishing an Orange Blob and Bloodworm while John Dickson, Maraghalin relesed 9 trout on a Bloodworm. Peter O’Hare and Tom Boyde from Newry fished Islandderry for the first l time last week and went home happy after releasing a total of 53 trout between them on a floating line using Montanas, Bloodworms and Cats Whiskers.
