Hinch Reports For 15 October 2016

The First Trust Senior Cup continued at Ballymacarn for a still depleted Ballynahinch RFC on Saturday as the County Down side took on Rainey OB RFC and after a scrappy match, came away the victors 20-11.

Hinch 2’s hosted Clogher Valley RFC in the Conference League under floodlights on Thursday evening and after an excellent on pitch performance, the 2’s came away the victors 25-12.

Ballynahinch 3’s travelled to Ballyclare 2s and after a free-flowing game of rugby, bested the East Antrim men 29-7.

Hinch 4’s played Carrick 2s at a muddy Ballymacarn and again put the visitors to the sword 31-6.

Hinch 5’s made the long journey to Coleraine to play a Students 2nd XV and a fast flowing game of rugby saw the visitors come away very much in 2nd place – 37-0.

Hinch 6’s hosted Inishowen and had a delayed start as the Referee waited for the pitch to drain of some standing water, but the home side saw off the visitors – 26-12.

The Evergreens were free.

James Neill reports from Carrick RFC

Hinch avenged the painful semi final cup defeat last season with a convincing victory away to rivals Carrick on Saturday.

Amidst wet and windy conditions, Hinch secured their second win of the season, bettering the opening weekend result away to Banbridge.

Centre Niall McAlister helped himself to four tries and his midfield partner Joel Hamilton got his first scores of the season, crossing the line in either half. Hinch were dominant at the break down the entire game, yet it was the backs tat made the difference this game with full back Cameron Patterson and wingers Cameron Lyons and Jojo Naga all getting on the scoresheet.

The try of the game was scored by out half, who capped a fine individual performance with a superb piece of handling and deception to curve his run in to get the teams tenth try of the game. Hewitt added six of the ten conversions in the game to see Hinch climb to the top of the league with Newry at home next up for the men in green.
