French Exchange Students Welcomed In St Patrick Centre

ON a recent visit to the St Patrick Centre in Downpatrick, Down District Council Chairman Eamonn O’Neill, met up with French exchange students from Lycée Amiral Ronarc’h School in the Brest Region of France.

The French students are staying with AS-Level French students from Shimna Integrated Colege as part of a work experience exchange programme. They are currently working from the Newcastle Centre and Shimna College. This follows on from the work experience undertaken by Shimna students as English language assistants last week in Brest.

In welcoming the French students and their teacher Florence Maieux Michaud to the district, Councillor O’Neill said, “Foreign exhange programmes are a fantastic opportunity for students to visit different countries, experience a diferent way of life, and enrich their cultural knowledge.

“I hope that our visitors have had the opportunity to discover the beauty of County Down, learn about its rich and varied history, and experience the great warmth and hospitality that the district has to offer.”

Councillor O’Neill presented each of the students with a  certificate in recognition of their hard work and participation in the programme.

Joining the French students at the St Patrick Centre were Ann Clarke, Head of French at Shimna Integrated College and their hosting partners from Shimna College. This very succcessful programme which ios now in its fifth year gives students n opportunity to perfect their language skills, gain vocatiexperience and increase their cultural awareness.
