Downpatrick FC 3   Windmill Stars 2

Sean Conway with his Player of the Morning voucher sponsored by Subway Downpatrick.

From the start Downpatrick put Windmill under pressure and created a couple chances with the Windmill keeper making three great saves to keeping his team in it. Downpatrick get a corner, John Mahoney hits crossbar with header and Lewis Green is in the right spot to put rebound in the net.

From the kick-off Downpatrick created two one on ones which the keeper does well and thwarts the Downpatrick strikers. A lovely ball from Mahoney to Matthew Robinson and he gives the keeper no chance with a fine finish. A couple of minutes to go before half time Downpatrick fall asleep and let the Windmill striker get the ball on the edge of the box and his shot is too powerful for Downpatrick’s keeper Chris McElroy as he gets his hand to it but can’t keep it out.

In the last minute another defensive mistake by allows the Windmill player to tap the ball in.

Downpatrick FC 1 v Carryduff 4

A depleted Downpatrick side took to the field with no subs and 2 players just out of their sick beds to produce a fine performance pushing a strong Carryduff team until well into the second half. Downpatrick went behind early on from a scrappy corner, then Andrew McCoubrey equalised within minutes with a well taken goal.

Carryduff strength in depth helped them as they were able to bring on fresh legs as Downpatrick tired and in the last few minutes. Downpatrick conceded three late goals and were unlucky to lose the game by such a margin. Each of the Downpatrick players stood out but Declan Looney and Corey McCoubrey deserve special praise for their work rate as they never stopped trying.

Dromore attacking from the start and had some meaningful strikes on target in the opening fifteen minutes which Downpatrick goal keeper Matthew Killen was able to handle, making decisive saves. Downpatrick were dangerous on the break and a Luke Shields goal midway through the half put the ‘greens’ in front.

Two minutes after going behind Dromore were awarded a penalty which they converted to make it one all. A Colin Jones goal from Ethan Artt free kick on 31 minutes put Downpatrick back in front but just on the stroke of half time Dromore equalised from free.

Half Time: Downpatrick FC 2 v Dromore 2

In the second half both sides had chances to score but unfortunately only one team made the break through. Strikes from Nathan Sharvin, Luke Shields and Conaill Gardiner of Downpatrick were well saved. Dromore scored three goals in the final ten minutes to secure all three points.
