Downpatrick Crowned Pancake Capital Of NI

Nadine McClure at Asda’s Downpatrick store is ‘flipping’ fantastic when it comes to pancakes!

She needs to be as she is preparing to beat all previous records by making nearly 6000 of them for the people of Downpatrick on Shrove Tuesday (13 Feb)

Nadine McClure is flipping brilliant at making pancakes at Asda’s Downpatrick store. This year she is trying to break her record for the number of pancakes in the run up to Pancake Tuesday on the 13th February.

Last year, Downpatrick topped the pancake charts in Northern Ireland according to Asda, as the store’s bakery sold nearly 5200, out-performing its nearest rivals, Portadown (5070) and Antrim (4750).

Nadine, who has worked in the bakery at Asda Downpatrick for five years, is known by her colleagues as a Pancake Perfectionist. She takes great pride in her work and while the freshly made pancakes are available all-year-round, it is in the run up to Pancake Tuesday when her flipping skills are really put to the test.

Nadine is the pancake queen of Northern Ireland and hopes to break her record this year.

She said: “I have my own personal technique when it comes to timing the flip – and it seems to work as there’s always a demand for my fresh pancakes straight from the hot plate.  It also attracts the attention of our customers, particularly children, as they love to watch each batch in production.”

To ensure the Pancake Capital title stays in Downpatrick, Nadine is working to a tight timetable which will ensure a constant supply of each of Asda’s seven different flavour varieties.

“With Pancake Tuesday offering a final chance to indulge before Lent, I’m predicting sales of my personal favourite – White Chocolate Chip – will peak this year,” Nadine added.

Mmmmmm!
